Elmwood Parkway Community Forestry

Join us to keep our local ecosystem healthy by clearing out invasive species (namely the Tree-of-heaven). We will work along a couple sections of the Elmwood Parkway to kill and remove invasive trees that negatively impact our native trees and flora. Bring a hand saw, hatchet, and gloves if you have them. We will meet at the farm and walk over to the parkway.

Where to meet: Elmwood Farm

When: Saturday, August 26th at 8:00am

Community Workday and Cover Crop Workshop

Join us for the last Second Saturday workday of the Summer. We will be doing a variety of work on the farm, together, as well as doing some teaching. The first section of the market garden that we planted on April 1st will be transitioned to a Summer cover crop planting to prepare for Fall. The workshop portion of Saturday is for both home gardeners and market growers who want to engage in our process of navigating the Summer to Fall transition in North Texas. We will talk through each step of the process as we do it to cover the “why” questions as they relate to soil health, timing, crop succession, and seasonal rotation. Workshop program will begin at 8:30am.

Additionally, on Saturday morning, we will be selling flowers and be open for visitors who want to use the children’s playground.

We invite you to Elmwood Farm for an evening of beautiful music with the Flanigan Family of Liturgical Folk. Liturgical Folk is a Texas-based music project (founded right here in Oak Cliff, Dallas) that seeks to pair historic Christian words with modern folk sounds. Since 2017, Liturgical Folk have released 7 albums of new hymns and settings, expanding the musical landscape of the Church, and transcending the traditional and contemporary divides. This concert will especially feature songs for Eastertide and Evensong.

The farm utilizes lawn seating for music events. Please bring a blanket and/or lawn chair. There will be no concessions, but you are welcome to bring a picnic dinner or drinks. Songbooks will be provided for you to sing along and engage with historic hymns and prayers of the Church.

Doors: 6pm

Music: 6:30pm-8:00pm

How to get here: There is street parking on Nolte Drive, S. Polk St, and Lebanon Ave along the DART tracks. Additional parking can be found next door at Tyler Station (which is a DART stop). We always encourage event attendees to walk, bike, or take the DART if you can.
